Covid Me Crazy
We can all check experiencing a pandemic off our bucket list. One of the hardest aspects of Corvid-19 is the uncertainty of what the future holds. How long is this going to affect us, what is the financial toll, how many years of tp have been hoarded are a few of the infinite number of questions and scenarios we have all pondered.
The minute by minute barrage of news keeps us informed, but also with so many eyes watching and the major networks competing for viewers, the headlines and stats seem to entice fear and panic. We are thankful for weathering this situation in Alaska, Anchorage has had its moments, lack of supplies, long lines for food, etc, but fails in magnitude to be in New York or other densely populated areas. Social distancing is what many Alaskans do best so on that level not much has changed.
Tourism is a large driver of the Alaskan economy and our primary source of income at Alaska Drift Away Fishing. Each day draws us closer to the much-anticipated fishing season, but with a huge question mark of when is the season actually going to start.
We are preparing for and optimistic about guiding in late May for 1st run Kings on the Kasilof, but only time will tell. Remaining calm and crossing bridges as they deem necessary has been our approach thus far and will continue to be that approach.
We are reaching out to guests that have trips in May and June and offering input and advice. Most folks are still planning on continuing with the trip and will make adjustments as necessary. There is still plenty of time before your trip so no need to worry, we are offering cancelations, date changes, and gift cards. Being flexible and upfront as this pandemic unfolds is our utmost priority.
