Upper Kenai River

Kenai Lake Boat Launch

  • From Anchorage – Take Seward Highway south towards Seward/ Homer. Exit right onto Sterling Hwy towards Soldotna/Homer. Take Sterling Hwy through Cooper Landing (10 miles from Sterling Hwy junction). As you go through the town of Cooper Landing, take your 1st right turn after the Bridge of Kenai Lake. If you pass Drifter’s Lodge on the right, you went too far. Turn around and repeat directions. Mile 48 Sterling Hwy. Allow 2 to 2.5 hours from Anchorage.
  • From Homer – Travel north on Sterling Hwy north for roughly 120 miles through Soldotna to Cooper Landing. Pass Gwin’s Lodge, drive 4 more miles and take 1st left into boat launch after the Cooper Landing grocery store (which is on the right-hand side of the road). Allow 2.5 to 3 hours from Homer.

Bings Landing

  • From Anchorage – Take Seward Highway south towards Seward/Homer. Exit right onto Sterling Hwy toward Soldotna/Homer. Take Sterling Hwy through Cooper Landing (10 miles from Sterling Hwy junction) heading toward Soldotna for 30 miles. Upon reaching the town of Sterling, look for a left turn onto Bing’s Landing Road. Follow the road down to Bing’s Landing Recreation Site, look for the Bing’s Landing Boat Launch. Allow 3 hours and 15 minutes from Anchorage.
  • From Homer – Travel north on Sterling Hwy for roughly 1.5 hours through Soldotna heading to the town of Sterling. You will pass Cook’s gas station on the left side of the hwy. No more than 5 minutes is Bing’s Landing Road. Turn right and follow the signs to Bing’s Landing Recreation Site, look for the Bing’s Landing Boat Launch. You will see the Kenai River on the left as you make the turnabout. Allow 2 hours from Homer.

Lower Skilak Lake Boat Launch

  • From Anchorage – Take Seward Highway south towards Seward/Homer. Exit right onto Sterling Hwy toward Soldotna/Homer. Take Sterling Hwy through Cooper Landing (10 miles from Sterling hwy junction) heading toward Soldotna for 20 miles. You will come around a big corner and see a road that turns to the left only. The sign will say Skilak Lake Road. Turn left onto the road and follow the gravel road for 15-20 minutes until you see a road that turns to the right only. There is a sign that says Lower Skilak Lake Campground and/or Boat Launch. Follow the road to the boat launch for 5 minutes. Allow 3 hours to reach this destination.
  • From Homer – Travel north on Sterling Hwy for roughly 1.5 hours through Soldotna and the town of Sterling. Outside of Sterling by 10-15 minutes is the road sign for Skilak Lake Road. Turn right onto the gravel road and drive for 15-20 minutes until you see a road that turns to the right only. There is a sign that says Lower Skilak Lake Campground and/or Boat Launch. Follow the road to the boat launch for 5 minutes. Allow 2 hours and 15 minutes from Homer.

Kasilof Boat Launch

  • From Anchorage – Take Seward Highway south towards Seward/Homer. Exit right onto Sterling Hwy toward Soldotna/Homer. Take Sterling Hwy through Cooper Landing (10 miles from Sterling hwy junction) heading towards Soldotna. Drive through Soldotna on the Sterling Hwy toward Homer. The town of Kasilof will be 15 miles south of Soldotna. Upon crossing the Bridge of the Kasilof River, take your 1st left onto Spetz Road. Look for a sign for Kasilof River Recreation Site. Due to new construction, there might not be a sign other than the road. Look to the left for the boat launch. Allow 3.5 hours from Anchorage.
  • From Homer – Travel north on Sterling Hwy for roughly 1 hour 15 minutes. Pass through the town of Clam Gulch and look for the town of Kasilof within 10 miles. Around a big guardrail left turn corner, you will see a right hand turn onto Spetz Road. Look for a sign for Kasilof River Recreation Site. Due to new construction, there might not be a sign other than the road. Look to the left for the boat launch. If you went over the Kasilof river bridge turn around and take your 1st left onto Spetz Road. Allow 1.5 hours from Homer.
